What is MicroTCA? MicroTCA™ is an open specification for plugging hot-swappable Advanced Mezzanine Cards (AdvancedMC™) directly into a backplane to create a small and highly scalable system. Lower cost applications and configurations now have a standards based platform, which utilises existing technologies and advantages developed for AdvancedTCA® products, in a form factor that fits diverse packaging solutions and is largely compatible at application level. By enabling hardware and software reuse, MicroTCA solutions are easier to bring to market with the flexibility to scale as your customers’ demands change. Using standards-based, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products, designers can gain on time-to-market when compared to a traditional proprietary product design cycle. The mass market appeal of AdvancedMCs can lead to larger volume shipments and economies of scale. Anticipated cost reductions will give equipment based on the MicroTCA specification a competitive advantage. MicroTCA will be the open standards platform of choice for diverse applications previously based on proprietary designs.
